Xochitl Gomez, the young breakout star from Marvel’s new Doctor Strange film, has a beautifully unique name which means “flower” in the indigenous language of Nahuatl, native to Mexico.
Xochitl, pronounced “So-Chee’, says the interesting spelling of her name has often been a talking point with people.
“People are always scared to say my name because it looks so weird in English, and they aren’t sure how to pronounce it,” she told YayOmg! magazine.
“But it’s actually been kind of an interesting way to break the ice and start talking to a new person – kind of an unexpected perk of having an unusual name.
She added: “In case you were wondering, I pronounce it SO-CHEE, so it rhymes with Mochi.”
