This is the first time Cher has elaborated on her mother’s death. One day after Holt’s death, Cher shared the news on social media, although she refrained from revealing any details at the time.
“Mom is gone,” the Believe singer tweeted on December 11 alongside a sad-face emoji.
Holt had battled with illness in the months before her passing, with Cher revealing three months ago that her mother was hospitalised with pneumonia.

“Home is the Best Medicine For Her,” she wrote in a follow-up tweet. “She’s Getting Better.”
Holt was a star in her own right. She was a model, singer and actress, who appeared in both movies and TV, including I Love Lucy, The Mike Douglas Show and The Merv Griffin Show. She was married eight times, twice to Cher’s father John Sarkisian (1946 to 1947 and then again from 1965 to 1966).

Back in 2013, Cher paid tribute to her mother in her documentary Dear Mom, Love Cher, in which she reflected on Holt’s upbringing, her multiple marriages, and her Hollywood career all while struggling to support her daughter after Sarkisian – a truck driver – walked out on her family just before Cher turned one.
“My mum is exactly like Rocky. She never gives up!” Cher told Entertainment Weekly while promoting the doco at the time.
