Aussie actress Toni Collette and musician David Galafassi announce divorce after 19 years of marriage

Toni Collette has announced her divorce to husband David Galafassi after almost two decades of marriage.

The Aussie actress, 50, and the musician, 44, shared the sad news this morning in a joint statement posted on Collette’s recently reactivated Instagram account.

“It is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing,” the statement began. “We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other. Our kids are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape.”

Hours before the sad announcement, Colette also shared a cryptic quote.

It was just four days ago Collette reactivated her Instagram, with her first post after a lengthy hiatus reading: “I’m back. Hello world. I love you 💘.”

The Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner first met Galafassi in 2002 at an album launch for his then-band, Gelbison.

The smitten pair were married one year later in a traditional Buddhist ceremony in Berry on the NSW South Coast. Buddhist monks assisted the service, which was capped off with a spectacular fireworks display.

In 2019 – the same year the couple and their children relocated to Australia after living in LA for many years – Galafassi was involved in a near-fatal motorbike accident in rural NSW days away from Christmas. Collette was quick to thank rescue services for saving her husband’s life.

“Recently my husband had a devastating motorbike accident. He’s now recovering slowly but well. We’re so lucky to still have him,” she wrote on the platform at the time. “It may not have been the case without the work of the incredible folks at NSW Ambulance and Toll Ambulance Rescue.”

“Thank you so very much for your swiftness, clarity, knowledge, compassion and dedication. You saved him and we cannot thank you enough. Yes, it is a very Merry Christmas. Thank you.”
